As a Filipino, I have a complex perspective on IVG technology. The Philippines may be hesitant about embracing a technology that challenges traditional notions of family and reproduction. The Church still has significant influence on social issues here. However, our culture is also becoming more progressive, especially young people in urban areas. Many would welcome IVG’s potential to help those who struggle with infertility or want to pursue new family structures. As a developing country, there could also be concerns about wealthy Filipinos disproportionately accessing expensive new reproductive technologies before everyone has adequate healthcare and education. Personally, I think a cautious, nuanced approach is warranted - appreciating potential benefits but also setting limits to ensure IVG is used ethically, equally and aligns with Filipino values. Wider societal consultation would be prudent before embracing radical changes to reproduction. Deep reflection on how IVG intersects with faith, social justice and human dignity can guide an informed Filipino perspective.
